There's nothing that better defines the experience of renting a van on the island than ending the day facing the sea. Watching the sun disappear behind the horizon from the door of your Can Camper is a magical moment you can't miss.
Here's our selection of strategic spots:
1. Sunset at Café Mambo (Es Caló des Moro)
If you're looking for the most vibrant spot to watch the sunset, you have to go to Café Mambo. It's located right next to the cove Es Caló des Moro, on the San Antonio promenade. It's the place where you experience one of the most famous atmospheres in Ibiza, the island's best sunset from Café del Mar and with live sessions from international DJs every evening/night at Café Mambo.
Can Camper Tip: The best option is to park at Ses Variades Parking (right behind the venues). From there you're just steps from the coast. You can stay around the parking area or the rocks, crack open a cold beer from the van, and enjoy the sunset.
2. Sunset at Punta Galera: Magic and Relaxation
For many, the best sunset in Ibiza happens at Punta Galera. This place is unique in the Mediterranean, formed by enormous natural rock platforms over the sea. It's the favorite spot for those seeking a more hippy, authentic, and peaceful experience, away from crowded beaches. Watching the sun hide behind the islets from these rocks is a priceless spectacle.
⚠️ CAN CAMPER WARNING (VERY IMPORTANT):
- Don't go all the way down: Under no circumstances try to drive the camper all the way to the end of the road. There's no exit or space to turn around, and you could get stuck. Always park in the upper area and walk down.
- Rough road: Access is via a road that's completely torn up. Drive very slowly and carefully, as there are deep potholes. Take care of the van as if it were your own so your adventure stays on wheels.
3. Cala Benirràs: The Drum Ritual at Sunset
If your camper route takes you to the north of the island on a Sunday, Cala Benirràs is a must-stop. It's famous worldwide for its unique energy: when the sun starts to set, dozens of people gather for the legendary drum party. The rhythm of percussion accompanying the sunset in front of the Cap Bernat islet (popularly known as the "Finger of God") is a purely Ibizan experience that will give you goosebumps.
It's the perfect place to feel the freest and most bohemian essence of Ibiza, surrounded by pine trees, crystal-clear waters, and an unbeatable atmosphere.
CAN CAMPER TIP (Sunday Logistics):
- Arrive early: On summer Sundays, road access is closed at midday when the parking fills up. If you want to enter with your camper, arrive before 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM to secure your spot.
- Patience when leaving: After the sunset, everyone wants to leave at once. Don't rush; stay a while having dinner in the van or enjoying the starry sky until traffic clears.
- Overnight stay: Remember that Benirràs is a protected area. Enjoy the magic of the moment, but find a suitable place to spend the night to avoid fines.
4. Es Vedrà: The World's Most Magnetic Sunset (Cala d'Hort Viewpoint)
If there's one place that defines the island's magic, it's the Es Vedrà Viewpoint, facing Cala d'Hort. It's not a beach, but a cliff with direct views of the imposing nearly 400-meter-high islet rising from the sea. Watching the sky turn pink and fiery in front of this rock mass is, without a doubt, the most iconic moment of any camper route through Ibiza.
It's a place filled with legends, magnetism, and a peace only interrupted by the sound of the sea. Watching nightfall here, with the "Stone Giant" as your only witness, is something you'll remember for life.
⚠️ CAN CAMPER WARNING (Overnight Stay and Access):
Respect the silence: It's a place for disconnection. Avoid playing loud music or taking furniture (chairs, tables) out of the van to keep the magic of the place intact and avoid penalties.
No overnight stays: This is a specially protected area. You can enjoy the sunset and have dinner in your van, but under no circumstances spend the night here. Environmental agents patrol the area and fines are very high.
GPS warning: Access to the viewpoint is usually blocked with barriers or signposted for residents only during summer months. Don't force entry with the camper on narrow roads if you see no-entry signs; it's better to park a bit farther away and walk the last few meters.
5. Cala Gracioneta: The Secret "Balcony" (Desalination Plant Area)
Cala Gracioneta is one of Ibiza's most coveted gems, but its small size makes it difficult to enjoy calmly. That's why the real plan for camper route experts isn't to go down to the sand, but to head to the upper area behind the cove, near the desalination plant.
It's a huge, flat esplanade, perfect for maneuvering the van, where there are hardly any people. From this natural "balcony" you'll have a panoramic view of the sunset over the sea with a tranquility you won't find down at the beach bar.
CAN CAMPER TIP (Total Privacy):
The best parking: Don't try to enter via the beach's main road. Head toward the desalination plant area from the back. You'll find a very spacious esplanade where you can park comfortably and enjoy the sunset from your own living room on wheels.
Zero crowds: It's the ideal spot if you want to watch nightfall with a cold beer without having to fight for a spot on the rocks or pay trendy venue prices.
Respect the environment: Even though it's a spacious and remote area, remember we're on an island with a fragile natural balance. Don't leave waste and keep the place clean so campers continue to be welcome in these spots.
