If you're planning an adventure on wheels, the million-dollar question is: Where to sleep in a camper in Ibiza? The White Isle is a paradise of freedom, but traveling in a van here has its rules. In this guide, we’ll tell you everything about staying overnight in Ibiza, the best places to wake up with sea views, and how to avoid those dreaded fines.
Sleeping vs. Camping: The difference that will save you money
To enjoy vanlife in Ibiza without any scares, the first thing is to understand the law. Throughout Spain, and especially in the Balearic Islands, there is a red line:
- Summer Regulations (June 1st to September 30th)
It is essential to distinguish between a motorhome and a camper van. During these months, if you are arriving in Ibiza from outside the island in a motorhome or caravan, it is mandatory to pay a daily fee of €1 and have a confirmed camping reservation in order to drive and stay on the island.
However, if you are arriving in a camper van (or renting one from us), you do not need a camping reservation to enter the island. Nevertheless, you must use a campsite to spend the night, as wild camping and sleeping inside your vehicle anywhere else in Ibiza is prohibited. The fine for sleeping in an urban area is €750, though this amount may vary depending on the local council's jurisdiction. However, if you do so on rustic land, in natural parks, or in areas protected by the Coastal Law (DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT), the fine ranges from €10,001 to €30,000. This is a local measure implemented to control capacity and protect the environment. - Difference Between Parking and Camping
According to DGT (Directorate-General for Traffic) instructions, you are allowed to be inside your camper van provided it is parked correctly. You may also spend the night inside (without camping, meaning no awnings, tables, or chairs extended). If you adhere to these rules, you will not have any issues.
Why do we recommend a campsite?:
- Safety and Peace of Mind: You avoid heavy financial penalties that could ruin your vacation.
- Services: You have access to showers, electricity, water filling, and greywater emptying legally and comfortably.
- Respect for the island: You help conserve Ibiza's ecosystem, especially in the most sensitive areas.
